Most Useless Megaprojects in the World//Abandoned, Delayed, and Failed Megaprojects

Number 5: Interstate H-3, Hawaii

Let's start with the magnificent highway in Aloha province - Hawaii. The 26-mile-long Interstate H-3 passes through one of the most spectacular scenery on earth. Surprisingly, there has been a real concern for the position of motorists road accidents. However, the highway is controversial as it is good. It was first proposed in 1960 with the intention of protecting it as the highway would connect Pearl Harbor Naval Base to the south side of Marine Corps Air Station on the east coast. The announcement of its construction was immediately met with opposition from environmental groups and Hawaiian natives who were concerned about the huge growth of the project will bring. Current environmental laws and changes in the protection of the surrounding valleys delayed plans permanently. 26 years later, natural barriers were removed when the congress was released a project from environmental laws and paved the way for construction to begin at last in 1989. The highway was finally reopened in 1997, some 37 years later as originally proposed. Interstate H-3 is often regarded as a masterpiece of engineering because of its difficult global environment built on it and the advanced technology used in its construction. In addition to the many high-tech channels, the highway runs almost over the viaducts. to protect the local environment in the lower valleys. Decades of delays, route changes, and new but expensive technologies mean that was completed five times more than the original estimated budget. Construction costs were $ 1.3 billion - $ 50 billion per kilometer - the most expensive cost per kilometer in the world. Despite the huge budget, this beautiful highway is not good for everyone. Critics believe it is "a no-go street" because the security considerations of The 60s are no longer important and the highway does not have a direct route to the city of Honolulu. Then there is the story of the Aborigines of Hawaii, many of whom refuse to use H-3 to today. They considered it "cursed" as many of the most important cultural sites of religion were destroyed during its completion. The H-3 intermediate highway is quite successful as Megaprojects goes, however, in some indigenous groups, it remains "Useless". At the very least, it has not been completely abandoned as the next project on our list.

Number 4: Ciudad Real Central Airport, Spain

The idea of this new airport was to make it look like we were already cramped the main airport in Madrid. The new airport had one of the longest runways in Europe and could be set at 2 million passengers a year. That is a small number compared to the number of passengers in Madrid who are 70 million. However, expansion plans were under way to increase the volume to 10 million per year. So when it went into operation in 2009, it would cost $ 1.3 billion it seemed appropriate. However, all of these plans came to a standstill in 2012 when the company carried out the project has been charged with felony criminal mischief. Problems started with the project site. Although it was called Central Airport, it was not in any way as it was 200 km from Madrid. This increased the inconvenience as most passengers avoided traveling long hours to get there remote area and many large airlines prefer to perform flight operations from the capital. So during the first year of operation, the newly constructed airport was reduced to a minimum airline. With no major airlines attracting passengers, the airport had already raised 350 million dollar debt in 2012. Not surprisingly, it entered the recipients and was put up for auction in 2013. The airport even became famous as the undisputed location of Britain's hottest television show Top Gear in 2014. After many auctions ended, including a gross $ 12,000 gift, the airport became eventually sold to new owners in 2019. As businesses collapse and profits dwindle during the Covid-19 violence, Ciudad Real The airport has found a live route. With little hope that passengers would return, the new owners re-established the airport as a low-rise home considering the dry climate, the long railway line, and the width. As of August 2020, there were 65 planes parked at the airport and the increase continues provides storage space for more than 300 aircraft. This new form of storage has given the airport a much-needed business opportunity. However, all stored flights will eventually depart once the epidemic is over and a return to normal flight performance remains difficult. This multi-billion dollar megaproject is still useless, for passengers around the world.

 Number 3: Naypyidaw, Myanmar

In November 2005, Myanmar leaders announced his decision to the public, but he kept it the name of the new capital is a secret. Four months later he finally pronounced the name: Naypyidaw - literally "King's residence". Yangon is home to some 7 million people, and the city is said to have reached its infrastructure the limits and population are set to double by 2050. In addition, the coastal city was established as the capital during British rule for its benefit a British ship. So it made sense for Myanmar to move the capital to a more central location. The new project was built quickly and so far, successive governments have arrived 4 billion dollars in the city. Naypyidaw seems to have everything to attract tourists: a 20-lane highway, more than 100 luxury hotels divided into three hotel regions, golf courses, museums, and even 99 meters a long photograph of a local landmark originally from Yangon. But there one key element remains missing: Population.
The new capital is home to less than a million inhabitants, most of whom live in suburban areas
who existed before the city became the Capital.
But why does no one want to live there?
The ongoing gap in health facilities, the lack of quality educational institutions, and the economy
opportunities mean that most people are reluctant to make the city permanent
at home .So the city often paints a picture of a desert and is often called Ghost City.
The amazing 20-lane highway is almost empty traffic jams do not make sense and sometimes one car is caught moving highway. The city has an airport that can carry 3.5 million passengers annually, but only when it is busy per day, twelve people will actually use it.
The mall is visited only by embassy staff on weekends, while it is a hotel
resorts are empty.
Despite the appearance of barrenness, there is a silver line of the "Royal Capital".
Built as the city of the future and with an explosive population, Naypyidaw still
you have time for the inevitable redemption.
At present, it is undoubtedly the most bizarre capital in the world and remains inactive in many respects
population of the country.

Number 2: Forest City, Malaysia

We've talked about the city that looks like a ghost, and next to our list is the wise city of the green future
which was to rise from the restored land of the four artificial islands and to be built around it
artificial Forest ecosystem.
The Forest City area makes it an attractive bet for potential investors
from near the independent city of Singapore.
Singapore has the world's second busiest port and a thriving economy.
Developers have already linked Forest City with Singapore through a second link
a bridge, shortening the distance between cities to just 20 minutes.
Forest City will also have its own entry point, which allows residents to move around freely
to Singapore and back.
The design is advertised to include many new green items.
Forest City will have buildings with green roofs and straight gardens, which provide
a forest experience.
Urban roads will have a multi-layered design with a lower layer of traffic as well
parking spaces while the upper layer will have parks, playgrounds, and transportation
harps.
The city will be electrified with renewable energy only and will be phased out
2035 at a cost of $ 100 billion.
One of the four proposed islands is nearing completion with 50 apartment buildings,
golf courses, swimming pools, and on-board beaches.
However, not everything goes smoothly in this highly coveted project.
Numerous economic and political hurdles have hampered its progress.
This project is mainly funded by China and the Chinese citizens who probably have it
free passage to the city during the first few years of its construction.
As a result, wealthy Chinese investors could not afford the rising prices
flats in their home country rush to Forest City.
By 2019, 80% of landowners were Chinese.
Even street signs were written in Mandarin and a few schools opened in the area
offering Mandarin courses.
Indigenous Malaysians cannot simply afford to buy these houses as real estate prices
are set taking into account only Chinese markets.
This influx of Chinese investors has caused public outcry and opposition to the project
calling it a new colonial way.
So after the change of leadership, the returning Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammad shut down foreigners
from owning property in a forest town.
Many foreigners are starting to leave the city and new investors are getting discouraged.
The next major setback came in the form of an epidemic and a worldwide travel ban.
The Malaysian movement control order meant no new investors could enter.
Many existing investors have opted out of the project because of uncertainty.
So by the beginning of 2020, fewer than 500 people live in residential areas
which is no small feat considering that Forest City is built for 700,000 people.
The project has been changing since some vendors said few
more than 10 homes have been sold in the town of Forest since the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
In addition, Country Garden laid off more than 1000 Malaysian workers in the past
a year that shows a significant decline in project luck.
Forest City probably had a great desire to start, a very bright future to really achieve
and is politically challenged to succeed anytime soon.
It is safe to assume that despite the billions invested, Forest City is currently unemployed
megaproject.

Number 1: Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Warehouse

We will conclude this list with a major project designed for global critical attention
issue.
Nuclear waste is not as widely spoken as other environmental problems.
However, if not stored properly, it can be far more dangerous than anything that has ever been seen since
the arrival of civilization.

In the 1980's, U.S. authorities began finding a lasting solution to this problem
waste problem.
In 1987, Yucca Mountain in Nevada was identified as the best option available.
It was close to the most widely used nuclear test site in the USA and was far from any population
institutions.
The plan was to dump national waste into a tunnel about
300 meters below Mount Yucca.
In addition to an isolated area, Mount Yucca is dotted with volcanic ash
millions of years ago.
It allows the Yucca mountain to absorb any radioactive waste without any leaks or cracks.
Mount Yucca seemed like a good place to store paper, but the Nevadans did
I do not have.
The United States has more than 100 nuclear and closed nuclear facilities in 34 states,
but none of them were in Nevada.
Representatives of Congress and the general public therefore strongly opposed the idea
that the only place for disposal of nuclear weapons so barak obama decided not to use this facility.
